Every Outer Room Available In Blue Prince, Ranked

Share

If you’ve finally worked out that the Garage door opens, and you’ve made your way out into the west garden of Blue Prince, then you can permanently unlock the West Gate and have access to the Outer Room slot at all times.

Pick the right permanent upgrades to make your runs easier.

Unlike the rooms inside the manor, the Outer Room has its own unique draft pool, and with it comes eight new rooms that can drastically alter your run, whether you draft it right at the start or wait until a little later. While some of these rooms can make your run a lot easier right from the beginning, others are a little more niche, and maybe even worth avoiding.

Hovel

Bedroom

Hint in the Hovel from Blue Prince.

The Hovel has an effect that you might initially think is a no-brainer, but after using it for a couple of runs, you might realize that it’s actually more of a liability than a buff. If you draft the Hovel, all rooms that usually have a gem cost will be switched for a step cost. For every gem, it’ll cost three steps instead.

With steps being a resource that you automatically have access to, you might think that this will open a lot of opportunities, but in reality, it can end up draining your supply pretty prematurely. Even with 70 steps and a good supply of food, using steps every time you need to draft a gem-cost room will add quite a bit of stress to your run, unless you have buffs that will help maintain your step count. While this room can occasionally be useful (and is worth drafting at least once for the secrets it hides), the other Outer Room options are much less risky.

Schoolhouse

Blueprint

Schoolhouse from Blue Prince.

The Schoolhouse is one of the more unique choices for your Outer Room, with its effect adding eight classrooms to your draft pool. Having access to Classrooms for the rest of your run can definitely be useful since they hide some secrets and puzzles, and the extra choice you get in drafting rooms is occasionally helpful.

However, by using the Schoolhouse, you’re essentially dedicating your run to being a Classroom run. If you’re prepared for this and have all the tools and information required to complete it, then go for it. However, in most scenarios, there is a better choice than the Schoolhouse for your Outer Room.

Trading Post

Shop

Trading Post from Blue Prince.

The Trading Post is one of the more inoffensive options for your Outer Room, since while it can be useful if you’re really not a fan of the items you’ve ended up with, in most cases, it’s just a bit of a waste.

The Trading Post, as the name implies, lets you switch any item you have for an item of similar value. This is helpful if you’re looking for something specific and just can’t find or afford it, but it all relies on chance since you can’t guarantee that the Trading Post will offer it to you. On top of that, it’s worth considering the step cost of heading to and from the Trading Post whenever you want to switch.

Root Cellar

Green Room

Root Cellar from Blue Prince.

The Root Cellar is a great option if you already have a shovel, but even if you don’t have a shovel yet, since it’s such a common item, you can usually bet that it’ll show up at some point during a longer run.

Out of every shop available, which should you draft?

Once the Root Cellar is drafted (so don’t waste a couple of steps walking in unless you’re really curious), it’ll add more dig spots to each of the rooms that have them, and might even add some to rooms that usually wouldn’t. This makes getting extra coins, keys, and even food easier than it would usually be.

Blueprint

Toolshed from Blue Prince.

Out of all the options for the Outer Room, the Toolshed is by far the simplest. Acting as an outdoor equivalent to a Closet, the Toolshed simply gives you two special items. Special isn’t too much to get excited about, since it just means that it won’t be a resource like coins, keys, gems, or dice, and instead will be a tool like a Shovel or Lock Pick Kit, hence the name.

While the Toolshed isn’t particularly ground-breaking, it’s a great way to have access to some useful tools that you might not get until later in your run otherwise.

3

Tomb

Blackprint

Hint from the Tomb from Blue Prince.

The Tomb immediately stands out from all the other options for the Outer Room by being one of the incredibly rare Blackprints. While the effect of five coins showing up for each dead end you draft is useful, it’s not even the most exciting thing this room has to offer.

If you solve the puzzle inside the Tomb, you’ll gain access to a new entrance into the basement, which doesn’t require getting a Basement Key from the Antechamber. While this entrance isn’t particularly useful if you haven’t already been to the basement, it’s still a great option to have for your run.

2

Shrine

Blueprint

Shrine blessing from Blue Prince.

The Shrine has the potential to be the best Outer Room contender in Blue Prince, but that depends entirely on how many coins you have to spare. The room won’t have any effect by default, and will instead give you a blessing depending on how many coins you have to offer.

Depending on how much allowance you’ve built up, you might not even have any coins to offer the Shrine, but if you manage to save up enough throughout your run, you can get some fantastic buffs. The best part is that some of these buffs last multiple days, making not only your current run easier, but the next few as well.

1

Shelter

Blueprint

An open Time-Lock safe in the Shelter in Blue Prince.

While most of the Outer Rooms in Blue Prince are powerful depending on different circumstances, the Shelter sticks out for being the most versatile option. On top of hiding a safe with a guaranteed gem each time, the Shelter’s default drafting effect is incredibly useful too.

Once the Shelter is in the Outer Room, the first three red rooms you draft will have their effect negated. This can be massively useful if used on rooms like the Weight Room, Furnace, or Maid’s Chambers, but make sure to avoid wasting it on a room like the Aquarium, which technically counts as a red room too, in spite of having no negative effects.
