The Abyssal Forest is another fairly linear stage in Doom: The Dark Ages, but with a bit of a twist. Around two-thirds of the way through, you’ll enter a fairly large arena where you’ll engage in a massive battle. After you’ve cleared it of all demonic entities, you’ll realize that the majority of the stage’s secrets are all wedged in this location.

Thankfully, the second part to one of Doom: The Dark Ages’ longest stages has less going on, but there are still plenty of secrets to be found!

The Life Sigil Above The Yellow Key
Follow the main path, and take the first right that makes itself available to you. Follow this path upward, jump across the gap, kill a Shield Soldier, and prepare to face a few Stone Imps (the ones you explode by Shield Charging). You’ll find the first Life Sigil at the end of the trail.
Getting The Yellow Key
Once you have your first encounter with the Whiplash demon, search the left side of the arena to find a place where you can drop down. Once you do so, follow the path through a stone corridor with two Shield Soldiers and an Arachnotron. Climb up the wall, and you’ll be in the room with the Yellow Key.
The second you grab the Yellow Key, all hell is going to break loose. We’re talking Whiplash Demons, Nightmare Imp Stalkers, Mancubuses, Shield Soldiers, Arachnotrons, Stone Imps, and Revenants. And there are tons of them. So, make sure you are in good shape before you pick it up.
The First Ruby
Open the yellow gate, clear out the Cyberdemon and Imps, and then, while facing the part of the stage where you entered this area, look over the edge on your right. Look for a path running alongside and under this area. Follow the path forward, and you will find yourself wading through water.
You’ll hop up to a platform with a launch pad. But before you jump on it, leap across the water to the climbable wall. There is a bunch of gold up here. Take the launch pad up, kill a Hell Knight, and grab the Ruby. Break the gate and you’ll be back in the area where you fought the Cyberdemon.
The First Codex
Head down the path until you see a row of Shield Soldiers, take them out, then look to your right. There is a wall of roots that you can break through you’ll be in a room with the Codex.
Treasure Chest
After you have leaped across a massive gap with a shield jump, look to hook around to the right. There is another breakable wall that leads to a treasure chest. Just Shield Charge your way through it.
Demonic Essence Health Increase
After the Sentinel Shrine, you’ll encounter a wide open arena, where you’ll need to fight off another massive wave of demons. Similar to the previous encounter, this is basically a who’s who of the demon world, as you’ll be battling nearly every demon you’ve encountered so far. It will culminate in a Pinky Rider Champion. Killing them will grant you a permanent health upgrade.
Second Treasure Chest
Once you’ve cleared out the arena, go back to the entrance, Take a right up a slope and break the chain holding the massive bell. This will drop it, causing a massive hole to form. Jump into the hole, and battle the Imp Stalkers. Then, climb up the wall to reach the Treasure Chest.
From the room with the treasure chest, take a right. Circle around the corner, and you’ll see a super-heated chain. There is a barrier rotating in front of it with a gap. Wait for the gap, then hit the chain with your shield throw. Once you break the chain, head back the way you came, past the room with the treasure chest, and to the cliffside.
Drop over the edge, and you will be facing a massive gate. Look up and to your left, you should see another chain to break. After you shatter it, the gate will raise. Go grab the gold inside, but prepare to fight a Whiplash demon. Head straight through, and then up two climbable walls. Once on top, look for the piles of gold on the scaffolding. Now, back up, and to the corner of the tower. You should see a trail of gold. Jump from platform to platform grabbing the gold. Once you turn the corner, you’ll see the second Ruby.
Witch Toy
Head to the corner of the arena, and you should find a path that loops around. Follow the path, grabbing gold as you go. You’ll need to fight a Hell Demon and two Imp Stalkers at some point. There are also fire jets that you’ll need to look out for. Once you are in the central room, you’ll see the toy is in a cage.
If you go in between the two fire-jets aimed at the center, and look up through the window, you’ll see a chain you can sever. Once you do, you’ll be able to throw your shield into the glowing gears in the next window over. Do that, and the cage will lift, allowing you to reach your treasure.
The Second Life Sigil
Near the loop where you got the Witch Toy, look for a block and a climbable wall. Once you find it, just platform you way upward, and you’ll be able to reach the Life Sigil up above.
The Gold Under The Cliff
Once you are ready to proceed, head through the gateway you blew open with the turret, and leap off the cliff. After clearing out any demons in your immediate vicinity, turn around, and you’ll see two piles of gold under the platform you just jumped down from. Follow this path to the end, kill the Arachnonoid at the end of it, and take the elevator down.
Treasure Chest
In the area where you receive the Grenade Launcher, you’ll see there is a treasure chest behind a gate. Continue forward for now. Not far down in this tunnel you’ll find one of those corpses you can stick you shield in to perform a shield jump. Do that, leap upward, and head down this tunnel. Jump over the first gap, and jump down the second. You’ll find yourself in the cell with the Treasure Chest.
The Final Life Sigil
When you reach the part of the stage where you hop down onto an old rail line, turn around, and you’ll find a Life Sigil in a shaft. Now that is left to do is to head straight and engage in the massive melee that concludes the Abyssal Forest chapter.
