Summary
- One of the big third-party reveals for the Nintendo Switch 2 was Cyberpunk 2077’s Ultimate Edition.
- Considering how the game originally ran on PS4 and Xbox One, this port did raise some eyebrows.
- CD Projekt Red has eased those concerns, though, and noted that it’s been able to “build on top of” the previous versions.
CD Projekt Red has assured Cyberpunk 2077 fans that the Nintendo Switch 2 port will “build on top” of the game’s previous releases and won’t have the same issues as the infamous base PS4 and Xbox One releases.
Although CD Projekt Red has put in a lot of work over the past few years to successfully turn around Cyberpunk 2077’s reputation and mostly deliver the game that was originally promised, its legacy hasn’t entirely left it. Many of us still remember playing the game when it launched and having to suffer through ports of the game that were so bad that they were even removed from sale.

Nintendo is setting a big precedent with Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2.
The days of Cyberpunk 2077’s underpowered and frankly broken PS4 and Xbox One ports seem to be long behind us, but that fear popped back up recently when it was revealed that the game was going to be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 via an “Ultimate Edition”. With the Switch 2 reportedly being comparable to a PS4 in terms of power, many have been worried about how it would perform.

CD Projekt Red Isn’t Worried About The Past Repeating Itself
While hands-on previews have already made it clear that Cyberpunk 2077’s Ultimate Edition is a good fit for the Nintendo Switch 2, CD Projekt Red has now commented on the port to ease any worries about it. As pointed out by VGC and originally reported by GameFile, CD Projekt engineer Tim Green was recently asked about how the Switch 2 port stacks up.
In response, Green noted that the Switch 2 port has been “able to build on top of that already solid base”, seemingly referring to the original version of the game we saw on PS4 and Xbox One. Green said that development still had its challenges, but that CD Projekt was careful in “picking tradeoffs to not compromise the game’s vision”.
“Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a tremendous amount of ongoing love as we’ve continued to improve the game. In bringing the Ultimate Edition to Nintendo Switch 2 we were able to build on top of that already solid base. – Tim Green
Regarding the Switch 2 version’s specs, Green said that Cyberpunk 2077 is targeting 1080p resolution in the quality docked mode and 720p in handheld performance mode, which sounds surprisingly stable. The handheld version will even support DLSS, which is rather impressive when you consider the size of Cyberpunk 2077.
