Summary
- Today marks the beginning of Fortnite’s new Star Wars season, Galactic Battle.
- Chapter 6, Season 3 adds a bunch of new features to the game, but it’s also taken an iconic one away.
- In fact, it’s the first time in Fortnite history that the item has been vaulted.
Fortnite’s new Star Wars season, Galactic Battle, has done the unthinkable and vaulted Ammo Boxes for the first time in the game’s history, although there’s a good reason for it.
Considering how many times Fortnite has crossed over with Star Wars over the past few years, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to learn that Chapter 6, Season 3 (which starts today) was going to be themed once again around the Far, Far Away galaxy. While it made sense that May 4 would be celebrated in Fortnite as it always is, Galactic Battle has made some surprising changes to the formula.

Outside of introducing some weirder characters like Darth Jar Jar and Wookie Team Leader, Fortnite’s latest Star Wars season has also added Starfighters, brought back Lightsabers as weapons (but not Pickaxes), and even added a Captain Phasma boss. As exciting as all those new features are, the biggest change is something that wasn’t even announced by Epic.
Star Wars Weapons Don’t Need Ammo, So Fortnite Has Vaulted Ammo Boxes In Chapter 6, Season 3
RIP To A Legend I Always Forget To Loot
As pointed out by reliable Fortnite insider HYPEX, Fortnite’s latest season has made history for the game, as it’s vaulted (or temporarily removed, if you don’t speak Fortnite) Ammo Boxes for the first time in the game’s history. That’s right, after eight years of Victory Royales and being one of the most helpful things to loot that I always forget about, Ammo Boxes have been given the boot.
This might seem like a big deal, and I guess it is since it’s never happened before, but there is a good reason for it. All of the Star Wars weapons that have been added this season (which seem to take up the entire loot pool) all have infinite ammo and work on a cooldown, making Ammo Boxes pretty useless.
I have no idea why Epic didn’t do this the last time they added Star Wars weapons, but I guess that’s because normal guns were also in the mix back then.
If you’re panicking about a Fortnite staple being removed from the game, I wouldn’t worry too much as they’re guaranteed to come back as soon as other guns get reintroduced. That might take some time, though, as Galactic Battle is going to be live for more than a month, which means you’ll need to get used to the strange weaponry.
