Much of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is going to be spent, unsurprisingly, around Oblivion portals. They play an important part of the game, with many quests centered around them. Breaking The Siege Of Castle Kvatch is the first half of a two-part Quest that could be certain players’ first experience with an Oblivion portal.

Oblivion Remastered: Best Ranged Build
Become a master archer with this Marksman build.
Depending on how early you come across it and what difficulty level you’re playing on, this can be a more difficult Quest if you aren’t prepared for it. We’ll go through your expedition into Oblivion step-by-step, helping you out along the way and getting you to the next portion of the Kvatch situation.
How To Start The Quest
Kvatch is located on the west side of the map, between Skingrad and Anvil. It’s on a hilltop, and you’ll need to climb up to where the sky slowly grows darker and the landscape is burning around you to find the Quest.
Once you’re up there, you’ll need to speak to Savlian Matius. He’s going to inform you of what’s going on, and when prompted, you can ask him if you can help. He’ll point you toward the Oblivion gate, warning you that helping is likely to get you killed.
Quest Walkthrough
After you decide to help, head toward the Oblivion gate. There will be a few monsters along the way, and you’ll need to fight your way inside.
On the other end of the Oblivion gate is, of course, Oblivion. There will be more monsters, but as long as he isn’t killed by monsters before he can get to you, you’ll be approached by Ilend Vonius.
He’ll either join you as a follower while you’re in Oblivion or go back through the gate to help on that end, depending on what you tell him to do.
Feel free to explore while you’re in Oblivion, as there are materials here that aren’t found easily elsewhere.
Once you’re ready to progress, head to the left side.
This will be a somewhat winding area with rocks falling from the elevation to your right and monsters on the way, but eventually this path will lead you to a door decorated with glowing red symbols. Head inside the door to the interior of the tower.
The Blood Feast
This tower is going to have many different doors and paths; once again, feel free to explore as much as you’d like, but be warned that there will be enemies throughout the tower, and in general, they’re going to be a little bit tougher than the situation outside.
How To Free The Prisoner
To do what you need to do in Oblivion, you’ll need to head up the tower. Most doors and paths lead up eventually; it’s just a matter of how many detours you take along the way. But, you’re going to find that the doors leading to the highest portion of the tower are locked, partway up.
Here, head through the only unlocked door, which will take you across an elevated bridge to another tower.
In this tower, there will be a guarded prisoner. Kill the guard, take their key, and speak to the prisoner. They’ll tell you that you need to remove the Sigil Stone from the top of the tower to close the Oblivion gate.
How To Get To The Top Of The Tower
When you return to the original tower, use your newly-acquired key to open the locked door to the Citadel Hall. There will be traps along the way here, so be vigilant. Once you’re back around the center of the room, there will be a Runed Portal. Interact with this to go up further.
At the very top of the tower will be the Sigil Stone. Grab it, and you’ll be transported back to Cyrodil.
Talk To Savlian
Once you’re outside, Savlian will claim that he always knew you could do it. He’ll ask for your help to storm the city gates next.
You don’t have to do this immediately. You can return to him when you’re ready.
Storm The Gates
When you’re ready to go, let Savlian know, and you’ll all storm the Kvatch gate together.
Inside the gate, there are going to be quite a few monsters. Fight them alongside your allies, and once all the monsters are defeated, you’ll be instructed to talk to Savlian again. He’ll lead you to the Chapel, where he believes there are survivors from the Siege.
Inside The Chapel
In the Chapel, you’ll find a small battalion of soldiers. Savlian will speak to them, and when he’s done, you’ll need to talk to him again. He’ll ask you for further help retaking the castle, which, when you tell him that you’re ready to help, will begin the next quest: ‘The Battle For Castle Kvatch’.
