Marvel And DC’s First Team-Up Comic In 22 Years Will Star Batman And Deadpool

Share

Summary

  • Marvel and DC have announced their first crossover comic books since 2003.
  • Batman and Deadpool will teamup in two comics releasing later this year.
  • The first comic will be published by Marvel, and the second will be a part of DC.

Marvel and DC are a little like Coke and Pepsi, McDonald’s and Burger King, WWE and AEW for my pro wrestling fans. Two brands in the same line of business that compete with one another and never work together or lift each other up. That’s not technically true for the comic book behemoths, though. They have worked together in the past, and now they’re about to work together again.

Marvel, in particular, has picked up an unfathomable number of new fans over the past 15 years. A decade and a half during which Marvel movies have become the biggest films on the planet. Six of the 20 highest-grossing projects ever are Marvel movies. Fans who have joined the Marvel family by way of the MCU bandwagon might not know that 22 years ago, Marvel and DC worked together for not the first, but the final time.

Until now. Revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC have announced a pair of crossover comics that will see a beloved character from each world teaming up – Deadpool from Marvel, and Batman from DC. There will be two comics starring The Dark Knight and The Merc with a Mouth. One published by Marvel, and one published by DC.

Marvel And DC Are Working Together

It Happens Sometimes, And Now Is One Of Those Times

The finer details of the team-up have not been revealed. However, I’m assuming Deadpool will be taking the lead in the MCU in Deadpool/Batman #1, and then vice versa in Batman/Deadpool #1. That will be the order in which the comics release, too. Marvel’s Deadpool-led comic book first when it’s released on 17 September 2025, and the DC follow-up two months later in November.

The comics will also feature “backup adventures” featuring over characters from each multiverse, but none of the other characters that will be featured have been revealed.

The last time Marvel and DC worked together on a comic was when the Justice League and the Avengers were forced to battle each other in a crossover series that ran from 2003 to 2004. There were series and one-offs where DC and Marvel had their heroes and villains team up and fight each other throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, but don’t go expecting Batman and Deadpool to kick off a new comic book crossover era.

“It happens kind of once every generation of readers,” DC president Jim Lee explained. “The timing has to be right in that you don’t want to do these too often. You want them to feel special.” That said, it has already been confirmed that another big crossover between the two is being worked on for 2026. It’s shaping up to be quite the crossover year for DC. A team-up between it and Sega has also been revealed, with various Sonic characters assuming the roles of iconic DC heroes.
