Pedro Pascal Prefers Joel’s Death In The Last Of Us To Oberyn Martell’s In Game Of Thrones

Summary

  • Pedro Pascal loved Joel’s brutal death scene in The Last of Us.
  • He preferred his death in TLOU to Game of Thrones.
  • Pascal knew about Joel’s death from the start and even agreed to the role partly because of it.

The Last of Us fans were given a gut punch with yesterday’s episode. While those who’ve played the games knew what was coming, it still hit us like a four iron to the head. Of course, there will always be those who aren’t happy with HBO’s adaptation of the brutal death scene, but it seems Joel actor, Pedro Pascal, loved it.

HBO’s The Last Of Us Needs A Spin-Off About Life In Jackson

A show to really focus on the last of them.

While he’s no Sean Bean, Pascal has had some of the most iconic deaths in TV history. We all remember his head getting crushed by The Mountain in Game of Thrones. However, the actor thinks his death in The Last of Us even tops that one, as it’s more of a surprise. GOT is notorious for killing off major characters (see Sean Bean above), but his death in TLOU came out of nowhere.

Pedro Pascal Loved His Death Scene In The Last Of Us

“I get killed a lot,” he said in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly. “I like to die.” He couldn’t help but compare the scene to HBO’s other smash hit, Game of Thrones. While Oberyn Martell’s death came out of nowhere, since he was winning the duel with The Mountain, Joel’s death scene played with viewers’ hope, as he was the main character of the show. My partner thought he’d still make a comeback somehow due to the virus.

“I think this is the best one,” said Pascal. “No, it’s in competition, I think, with Game of Thrones. It has to be. I love the golf club. I’m going to start golf.” That golf club has given gamers some bad memories, and now it will linger with fans of the show as well, but it’s all fun and games for Pascal.

He later spoke about the fact that he knew about Joel’s death right from the start, and it was one of the reasons he agreed to the part as well. “It was part of the deal,” he explained, talking about Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann pitching the role to him. “They’re like, ‘Don’t worry, you’re going to die’ And I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll take it!'”

This Time, Can We Not Discuss All The Differences Between The Last Of Us Game And TV Show Please?

The Last of Us is mainly discussed by gaming fans analysing similarities, and that’s no way to watch television.

“I just think that the series is based on very specific source material, and so that was always a part of the presentation of the idea that we would go all in on season one, shoot for 11-12 months in Alberta, and then it would take a totally different shape the second season. And this is why it was like that.”

It seems Pascal loved the idea of Joel being brutally killed at the start of season two. Why would you do this to us, Pedro? Twice!
