SNL Makes Rare Apology After Mocked Celebrity Complains About Sketch

Aimee Lou Wood has been a popular figure ever since her breakout with Netflix’s Sex Education, owing in part to her bubbly, down to earth popularity and distinctive appearance. Wood’s large eyes and gap-toothed overbite have become her trademark and have lifted her to further stardom after her role as Chelsea in the latest season of The White Lotus. However, these have also seen her become a figure of ridicule, including recently by Saturday Night Live.

Yellowjackets Season Three Ending Explained

Yellowjackets’ promise of a season three cliffhanger delivered and then some as long-running theories were put to the test.

In a sketch mocking The White Lotus, SNL cast member Sarah Sherman plays Wood with comically oversized, rotten teeth in a move Wood called “mean and unfunny” on her Instagram page. In a rare move for a show so used to making fun of public figures, SNL has since issued an apology.

SNL’s Controversial The White Lotus Sketch Also Attracted Fan Complaints On Wood’s Behalf

Wood went on to say “Such a shame cos’ I had such a great time watching it a couple of weeks ago. Yes, take the p**s for sure — that’s what the show is about. But there must be a cleverer, more nuanced and less cheap way?”

The crux of the sketch mixes White Lotus characters – typically rich and often not too bright – with members of the Trump administration, with the skit called The White POTUS. Wood’s teeth are used as a punchline when RFK Jr. suggests removing fluoride from the drinking water.

“I am not thin skinned. I actually love being taken the p**s out of when it’s clever and in good spirits,” Wood continued on her story. “But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”

All we know of this apology is that it exists, given Wood confirmed in on her Instagram story with the simple caption “I’ve had apologies from SNL”, but maybe the matter can now be put to bed. Wood has previously spoken of her insecurities over her looks, claiming when she heard show creator Mike White had to fight with HBO to get her, she feared it was because HBO didn’t want “the ugly girl”.

It’s not the first time Wood’s online presence has been involved in controversy either, as a swirling ‘who unfollowed who’ drama befitting of The White Lotus itself is currently taking over the post-season three discourse.
