The Funniest Scanner Entries In Revenge Of The Savage Planet

Share

Revenge of the Savage Planet is packed to the brim with details, and nowhere is that more apparent than with the scanner. Almost as soon as the game starts, you can start scanning everything around you, whether it’s random pieces of tech, the surrounding creatures, or just every piece of nature you come across.

The stars said you’re definitely part Grab Grub.

Every one of these scannables has a unique description that you can read either while you’re scanning it, or whenever you want in the Kindex, and some of them are absolutely hilarious. With how many scannables there are, it’s clear that whichever Raccoon Logic employee was trusted with writing them was given absolute free rein, and that can be seen in the sense of humour some of them have.

Gunther Standee

Obstacle

Revenge of the Savage Planet scanner description for the Gunther Standee flipping off the camera.

As the head of Alta, Gunther is easily one of the most hateable characters in Revenge of the Savage Planet, and he makes himself even easier to hate by trolling the main character by placing standees of himself all over Nu Florida, flipping you off no matter where you are, at least until you destroy them.

Whoever wrote the scanner entry for the standee clearly has it out for Gunther, too, with their hatred obvious, making fun of his bald head and smarmy expression. You shouldn’t feel guilty about destroying the Gunther standees, but if you do, at least you know that the scanner author has your back.

Alius Rubius

Flora

Revenge of the Savage Planet scanner description Alius Rubus fern.

One of the best elements of the scanner in Revenge of the Savage Planet is that even the most abstract background objects have some of the best descriptions, and a perfect example of that is one of many ferns: alius rubius.

It’s easy to imagine the poor scanner author, faced with a whole host of random plant life used throughout each of Revenge of the Savage Planet’s areas, and tasked with adding flavour text to each of them. The Alius Rubius, as mentioned, is one of many ferns, and as the scanner author makes very obvious, there’s only so much you can say about ferns.

Greasy Lambet

Fauna

Revenge of the Savage Planet scanner description for Greasy Lambet Always Sunny In Philadelphia reference.

While a lot of the scenery in Revenge of the Savage Planet is beautiful, there are just as many moments in the game that revel in the grotesque, and that can be seen in the aptly named greasy lambet, a visually repulsive “pulsating slimy egg”.

Taking every opportunity to make a reference they could get, the scanner author decided to reference Danny DeVito’s iconic line from Always Sunny In Philadelphia, offering an egg at a trying time. While an egg from DeVito is always a tempting offer, a greasy lambet is much easier to pass up.

8

El Sonodar

Flora

Revenge of the Savage Planet scanner description El Sonadar sexy little fern.

Another one of many ferns found in Revenge of the Savage Planet, it’s clear that this was where the scanner author decided to hide some of their best material. The el sonodar is undeniably a beautiful fern, and the scanner author is more than aware of this, with their description.

Looking for that Revenge of the Savage Planet feeling? These titles will keep you in

With how tumultuous life can be, especially for the main character of Savage Planet, maybe life would be simpler if you were a fern, and this scanner entry reflects that desire. It’s worth keeping in mind that even if you escape sentient life to become an in-universe fern, there’s still a very good chance of being doused in goo.

7

Cracked Wall

Obstacle

Revenge of the Savage Planet scanner description for Cracked Wall Zelda reference.

If there’s one game that’s going to poke fun at video game clichés, it’s going to be Revenge of the Savage Planet, and that’s most obvious when reading the entry for the cracked wall.

There is no such thing as a cracked wall in a video game that can’t be broken with some kind of explosive, and if it does, it’s intentional trolling. The scanner entry for this wall challenges you to think back to “every videogame ever made” to look for the answer on how to break through.

6

Wormzilla

Fauna

Revenge of the Savage Planet scannable description for Wormzilla in the desert.

As the first main boss in Revenge of the Savage Planet, the Wormzilla is a threatening multi-phase beast to take down, but compared to some of the more creative creatures seen in Savage Planet, it’s definitely one of the more archetypal. We’ve all seen a giant sand worm before, right?

But you can’t fault Raccoon Logic for a lack of self-awareness, with the scanner entry explicitly listing the worm as a bit of a cliché. It also gives you some interesting tidbits about the boss’ behaviour, like how if you’re swallowed, you’re likely to survive inside for years, thanks to how slow digestion is. I wonder if you’ll get eaten during the boss fight. Surely that would be too clichéd… right?

5

Citrasweet

Flora

Revenge of the Savage Planet scanner description for the Citrasweet with explosion warning.

While Revenge of the Savage Planet isn’t one of the hardest games out there by any stretch of the imagination, if you were to actually live out the events of the game, you’d definitely be struggling to survive on such a hostile planet.

One of the best examples of this is the scanner description for the otherwise inconspicuous citrasweet. While fruit-eaters local to Stellaris Prime can eat it no problem, humans should only sample the fruit “unless you like the taste of your heart exploding in your chest”. I wasn’t hungry anyway…

4

Smarte Pantse

Flora

Revenge of the Savage Planet scannable description for Smarte Pantse in Latin.

The team at Raccoon Logic was clearly given very few limitations when it came to naming the various flora and fauna found throughout the game, with Smarte Pantse, a name that makes a lot more sense once you read it out loud.

8 Changes To Make Revenge Of The Savage Planet Go From Good To Great

Even great games can use some help to improve the player experience, and Revenge of the Savage Planet is no different.

Clearly looking to make fun of the smartest of smarty-pants, the description for the plant reads “rubus viridis, qui cogitat ultra annos suos” translating from Latin to read “a green bush that thinks beyond its years”. How poetic.

3

Frangipane Drifts

Region

Revenge of the Savage Planet scannable description for desert region of Frangipane Drifts.

The second area to explore in Revenge of the Savage Planet is Xephyr, and it’s undeniably a desert planet. While it’s less obvious since you don’t manually scan them yourself, each of the regions you visit has a scanner entry, and that includes every single sand-filled region of Xephyr.

Just like ferns, there’s really only so much you can say about deserts after a certain point, and it’s clear that the scanner author finally reached the Frangipane Drifts and realized that they were completely out of material.

2

Clawbella

Fauna

Revenge of the Savage Planet scannable description for Clawbella in lava filled cave.

Compared to the first boss, Clawbella, the second, found deep in the lava pits of Zenithian Rift, has a much more iconic design. The queen of the smaller crushers found above her, Clawbella is a challenging foe to take down, and she’ll be a test of all the abilities you’ve mastered up until that point.

The scanner author seems to have a much cattier opinion on the queen crustacean, however: “Horrible eyeliner. Could Use Some Sun” ouch. At least they don’t play down her power in battle, in the most articulate way possible, of course: “Huge claws cause major pinchy-pinchy-ow-ow time.”
