The Last Of Us Season 2 Is Being Review Bombed After Episode 4

Share

Summary

  • The Last of Us is being review bombed once again.
  • This time, Season 2 has drawn the ire of so-called fans, as its Metacritic user score has plummeted to a 3.6.
  • Critically speaking, both Season 1 and Season 2 have no negative reviews, making the whole situation another case of poor and disruptive behavior.

They say that the more things change, the more things stay the same. That could not be more true, particularly when it comes to The Last of Us franchise. Back in 2020, The Last of Us Part 2 was review bombed in spades by people alleging the game was propaganda. Things were bad enough that Metacritic began attempting to address the act of review bombing via some changes.

I Don’t Care What Anybody Else Thinks About The Last of Us

I can’t know how to hear any more about discourse.

Flash forward to early 2023, and people began review bombing the HBO adaptation of the PlayStation video game, specifically its third episode, which featured Bill and Frank. Flash forward again to last week, and Season 2’s fourth episode was the subject of another batch of review bombs.

For fans of the franchise, it’s a massive feeling of Déjà vu, as seemingly, no matter what it does, so-called “fans” will find a way to tear it down for really no reason other than having a diverse cast, including queer representation.

People Will Never Be Normal When It Comes To The Last Of Us Franchise

As first reported by GameSpot, Season 2 of HBO’s live-action adaptation has plummeted to a 3.6 rating on Metacritic, or “Generally Unfavorable,” based on its rating system.

In its 3.6 user score, 62 percent of the reviews are classified as “Negative.” The reviews all largely harp on the same tired points, which shouldn’t be a surprise at this point.

Critically speaking, Season 2 of the show has an overall 81 rating of “Universal Acclaim” without a single negative review, and only six “Mixed” reviews. That reception closely resembles Season 1, which has an 84 rating and just one mixed review.

Which is to say that, unlike something like the Borderlands movie, which was universally hated by watchers and critics due to its lack of quality, there isn’t anything to warrant such a reception. The same thing happened with Season 1, and before that, it happened with the games. Given that the show intends on having more seasons, that feeling of déjà vu is likely going to stick around.
