If you’re shoved into a world full of magic and superpowers, like Hunter x Hunter, what kind of an ability would you choose? While some may choose a flashy speed-based ability that lets them blitz through enemies, others may want a complex hack that lets them beat anyone without ever fighting them. However, a lot of times, all that you really need is a punch that can knock anyone out, and enhancement works best for that.

The Succession War rages on.
Hunter x Hunter is filled with enhancers of all kinds. From those that reinforce their fists with Aura to those that don’t even make use of enhancement, the kind of characters that fall into this category are merry in number. Among these hotheaded muscleheads, who can punch the hardest, and who makes the best enhancer in Hunter x Hunter?

Ikalgo
Ikalgo is a bit of a weird character in Hunter x Hunter. He looks like an octopus for one, being a Chimera Ant with human memories and a mollusk body, but his oddness goes beyond just that. Put simply, Ikalgo isn’t exactly shown to be an enhancer, despite Togashi stating he is one.
Ikalgo is a character whose ability is quite strong. Unfortunately, this isn’t an enhancement-type Hatsu, but rather the ability to manipulate people. Ikalgo does this by squeezing himself into someone’s corpse and controlling them from the inside. The grotesqueness aside, how an enhancer is able to use a manipulator-type ability of this potency is a mystery, and one that’ll perhaps never receive a proper answer.

Gon Freecs
No list of enhancers could ever be complete without Hunter x Hunter’s face and poster boy, Gon Freecs. We’re introduced to the world with his fishing escapades, which means we get to see Gon go from being a harmless fish in the sea to a Nen master who can hold his own against others much older than him.

Gon is a textbook enhancer, being a hotheaded teen who acts on feeling and not thought. He’s completely honest and straightforward, things that make a great enhancer, and could hold his own even before learning of Nen. Being Ging Freecs’s only child, it’s no surprise Gon had immense potential as a Nen genius, and while he still has a long way to go, Gon has shown us what enhancers are capable of in the short amount of time he’s known what Nen is.

Phinks
The Phantom Troupe is a group of criminals that stop at nothing. Thievery, kidnapping, and even mass genocide aren’t off the table when there’s money to be had. Since this group deals with death on a daily basis, not just anyone can call themselves a Spider; you have to be one of the strongest Nen users in the world to even be given a chance.
Phinks Macgub is one heavy hitter who fits the criteria, being an extremely strong melee combatant that can punch harder than anyone else. What lets Phinks output so much power is his Nen ability, Ripper Cyclotron, giving him increased power each time he spins his arm around. Wind it up enough, and Phinks can one-shot even the strongest of foes.

Nobunaga
With more than a hundred anime episodes and about 400 manga chapters already available for Hunter x Hunter fans to indulge in, having a character belonging to a group as important as the Phantom Troupe still not showing his ability is quite the feat. Unfortunately, that’s one of Nobunaga’s only tangible feats, which are explicitly shown in the show.
Nobunaga is a swordsman who has shown on numerous occasions just how adept he is at both combat and Nen use. He has an almost sixth sense for all things Nen, much like Hisoka, showing that he’s one of the smarter and more perceptive characters we’ve met. He’s certainly still quite strong, being able to hold his own against many great hunters, but we can’t put him any further without a proper Hatsu to boast about.
3
Uvogin
Uvogin is another member of the Phantom Troupe, serving as its main combatant. Despite him losing to Kurapika during the Yorknew City arc, he’s one of the strongest and most potent Nen users we’ve seen in Hunter x Hunter, and is arguably the peak of enhancement for what normal humans can achieve.

Here’s everything we know so far about the Dark Continent Calamities.
Uvogin is a textbook enhancer. He doesn’t do anything complicated, nor does he make use of Nen’s intricacies to reap benefits. Instead, Uvogin just punches very hard, and this is enough for him to become one of the strongest humans alive. He’s better than almost anyone else we’ve met, but the gap between him and the entries that come later is just too great for a normal human to overcome.
2
Adult Gon
Gon was always an extremely gifted child with the potential to surpass even the strongest of hunters, and the only thing that stopped him from topping several other entries on this list was a lack of experience and time. So, what happens if we give our favorite protagonist the time he needs so desperately to reach his full potential?
We get to see another enhancer that may just rival Isaac Netero. We only got to see Gon’s adult form for a brief period of time after he sacrificed his entire life’s worth of Nen to be gained at one moment to defeat Pitou, but the severity with which he thrashed one of the Royal Guards is a feat no one else on this list can come even close to replicating.
1
Isaac Netero
Isaac Netero is not merely the strongest enhancer, but someone who many in the Hunter x Hunter universe agree to be the strongest Nen user in general. He’s someone who transcended human limits by repeatedly practicing 100,000 punches a day, each punch followed by a prayer. At the end of his journey, he could complete all 100,000 of these punches in less than an hour.
Being the only person who could even come close to defeating Meruem, Isaac Netero’s eventual defeat at the hands of the Ant King shouldn’t make you underestimate him. He’s the strongest human in Hunter x Hunter that we’ve seen, and despite his lack of enhancement-type abilities, he takes the throne as Hunter x Hunter’s strongest enhancer.
